20/07/2010 - Hey - thanks for visiting!! Marilyn's last home is still very much in the news due to it being for sale again, as I said last week how I wish I had the money to buy it!! Free for All Movie Mondays are back at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and it all started last night with "Some Like it Hot" - anyone go to see it last night?? Please let me know if you did!! The Jersey City Independent reported this week that a former Zoning Official has donated about 20 items of Marilyn Monroe Memorabilia to help raise funds for Jersey City Library. Among the items that Tony has donated is a life sized statue of Marilyn in her famous Seven Year Itch pose - hope lots of money is raised for the library. Sunday 18th July 2010, Southbank Centre, London, UK, on Level 5 at 7:45pm, tickets £7. Details: Andrew O'Hagan/London Literature Festival. Andrew O'Hagan leads an ensemble reading with leading actors Ian MacDiarmid, Andrew Hawley and Suzanne Bertish, based on his new novel The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog and of His Friend Marilyn Monroe. The actor Johnny Depp has bought his partner Vanessa Paradis a pair of Ferragamo shoes once worn by Marilyn Monroe. Vanessa has never worn the shoes however, but is preserving them as a keepsake - as you probably guessed, she is a big fan of Marilyn Monroe. Andrew O'Hagan, the author of The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog and His Friend Marilyn Monroe, talked about this book in Dartington during the Ways With Words Festival 2010. If only I had lots of money - it has been announced today that Marilyn's Brentwood home is for sale. It is on the market for $3.6 million, how I would love to own that house, and preserve it and put Marilyn's image on every wall - oh well I can dream!! Marilyn Monroe Memories actually gets a mention in the article about Marilyn's Brentwood home being for sale - thank you Huffington Post in LA for the mention, really appreciated!! A photograph taken of Marilyn Monroe wearing sequins in a 1957 portrait by fashion photographer Richard Avedon will be sold at Christie's in Paris this autumn. The photograph of a pensive Marilyn could sell for £100,000 with the whole of the sale expected to raise £4 million. 29/06/2010 - Hey - thanks for visiting!! Over the weekend Marilyn Monroe's set of three chest X-Ray was sold at auction for $45,000. The chair that was used by Marilyn in her final photo shoot was sold in auction for $35,000. Removed a few items of old news from this page now, hope you managed to see it before it went!! 15/06/2010 - Hey - thanks for visiting!! Marilyn's iconic pink satin dress, which she wore in her film "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" sold at auction for $319,000 US Dollars, it has been reported that the auction took place in Hollywood last week - whoever now owns this dress - lucky, lucky you!! LIFE magazine are to auction original iconic photographs of legendary stars including Marilyn Monroe. The auction is currently underway, and there are nearly 200 vintage photographs chosen from LIFE's archive collection. 08/06/2010 - Hey - thanks for visiting!! A one-woman show all about Marilyn Monroe's life and career has been added to the next Asolo Repertory Theatre in Florida. Marilyn Forever Blonde, is a play with music, and the show itself is set at what was to become Marilyn's last photo session, and finally gives her the chance to tell her life story in her own words, according to the show promotors. It will be staged at the Mertz Theatre from 18 June - 17 July 2011. The Hollywood Museum opened the special exhibit "Marilyn Remembered: An Intimate Look At The Legend" - which will showcase hundreds of never before seen items showing the public and private life of Marilyn. Included in the exhibit is her 1961 Fleetwood Cadilac, personal photographs, furniture, costumes and much more. This exhibit is open to the public from Marilyn's 84th Birthday 1st June and closes on 31st August 2010, and the Hollywood Museum is in the historic Max Factor Building. Today marks Marilyn Monroe's 84th Birthday, wish she was here so we could all celebrate her special day with her with us!! It has been reported today that the only known image of Marilyn Monroe with John F Kennedy is to be sold at auction. It is only 1 of 10 prints from the negative and it is expected to sell for about $23,000 at auction. No other details of the auction at this time, but will keep checking. My thanks to Faber and Faber, the book publishers for emailing me again with the press release for the new book "The Life and Opinions of Maf The Dog And of his Friend Marilyn Monroe". Snippet from press release: The story of Maf the dog is a hilarious and highly original peek into the life of a complex canine hero - he was very much a real historical figure, with his license and photographs sold at auction along with Marilyn's other person affects. Through the eyes of Maf we're provided with an insight into the life of Monroe herself, and a fascinating take on one of the most extraordinary periods of the twentieth century. The book is on sale now, hardback £18.99 from all good bookshops, and you can see a mixture of stills from the trailer below. Marilyn's pearl necklace has also reached the news headlines this week as it has been reported they will be on display at the Pearl jeweller Mikimoto as part of The Bond Street Culture and Heritage Week, which is to take place 7th June 2010 - 13th June 2010, in London, England. The Japanese company presented the pearl necklace to Marilyn in 1954 when she was on Honeymoon. Marilyn gave the necklace to Paula Strasberg, who then passed it onto her daughter Susan after Marilyn's death. 18/05/2010 - Hey - thanks for visiting!! Well I've had a number of emails this week, which is wonderful and ranging from an invite to Marilyn's Birthday Bash, a Marilyn author letting me know about their Facebook page to a book publisher asking if I would like to use an animated trailer that is for a new book out this month. Now for each of these in more details: firstly the Birthday Bash to mark Marilyn's 84th Birthday - it will be taking place in New York on Friday 4th June 2010. The idea is that Marilyn fans are being invited to go dressed as Marilyn and meet at Madison Square Park for music,entertainment and other Marilyn related activities. The idea is also to get everyone in New York to stop and stare at the sight of so many Marilyn's in one place honouring the legend as she deserves to be honoured. I was unable to open the attached images to give you more details but I'm sure if you searched on the internet you would find more about this - hope this is a huge success, if I lived in America I would be doing my upmost to be there, though I shall be celebrating Marilyn's birthday here in UK!! Now onto Facebook: the author Michelle Morgan, who has given us the fantastic books 'Marilyn's Addresses' and 'Marilyn Monroe:Private and Undisclosed' has been in touch with me via email. Michelle now has a Facebook page, and this will be the place to see what Marilyn projects and other works Michelle is working on - everyone is welcome to join, the link to The Official Michelle Morgan Author Page can be found towards the end of this page so please take a look!! Last, but certainly not least the book publisher Faber and Faber have been in contact with me via email to let me know that the book 'The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog and of His Friend Marilyn Monroe' by Andrew O'Hafan, which is a fictionalised account of the last two years of Marilyn's life, told through the eyes of her dog Maf, is available to buy now. The author is a huge fan of Marilyn's, and has been for many years. You can watch the animated trailer which was made to accompany the book below!! 11/05/2010 - Hey - thanks for visiting!! It has been reported today, by both Variety and The Press Association, that Marilyn Monroe's death is to be retold in a new film by FilmEngine, which will re-open the investigation into Marilyn's death. They have optioned the life rights of the deputy LA coroner Lionel Grandison who claims he was forced to put on Marilyn's death certificate "suicide" rather than "murder". Anthony Rhulen's partner at FilmEngine John Ryan Jr will write "Marilyn". Anthony Rhulen has said that "Lionel Grandison's story has never been told before in film." It is claimed, by Lionel Grandison, he had in his possession for a few days Marilyn's diary, which has, to this day, never been found. He was given her diary in order that he would be able to find her next of kin. I will keep checking out for this film, and any other information that comes to light about it, so please keep checking back on this site. Marilyn's famous pink satin dress from the film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is going under the hammer. Hollywood Memorabilia dealers at California auction house Profiles in History will offer this item to buyers in an auction next month!! Also featured in this auction will be the test footprints and signature set in cement from outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre of Marilyn Monroe. The auction will take place over three days, with Marilyn's dress being the highlight, and the dress is expected to fetch between $150,000 and $250,000, as this is stated to be the ACTUAL dress that Marilyn wore in the film. Maf, Marilyn's dog it is claimed came from Scotland reports the Daily Record newspaper. An author believes that the Maltese Terrier began life in Scotland, and the author first came across this story when Maf's dog tag and licence were auctioned.
